The Hobbit the movie

12/16/2012

I sit next to a sleeping tailless kitten. She is totally unsuspecting that soon she shall be taking a bath. I’ll let her enjoy this moment for now…

Sunday I wake up around noon with the sun high in the sky. It beckons me to wake up and fulfill the days missions. “What missions?” I grumble between rubbing my eyes and searching for coffee. Our fridge is more like a mysterious cave than usual. I have to search two different shelves and even relocate a water jug. Oh iced coffee, my precious precious friend. (They buy groceries on Saturday, me having not been home much on Saturday the last I’d seen of the fridge it was a barren desolate thing.)

Today is book club. Today we go to the movie theater to watch the Hobbit. I stand up suddenly alert. I did not actually finish rereading the book. At least I hope that I read as far as the movie will reach and perhaps still be included in all the comparison conversation.

I spend three hours hanging out at Swankey’s house. J-Rabbit and I don’t get as much hang out time these days due to her being in nail school and working full time.

We spend a good deal of time discussing her dude situation, she shows me an episode of Amish mafia and I drink an energy drink on top of some alcohol. We entertain ourselves by playing a day in the life from each of our cell phones but with hers starting a little but behind mine. Somehow we link it up perfectly so that all the songs buildups are doubled in length. It was awesome but I say that having not been sober at the time of. I play some Gardens and Villa for my friend as that band is my latest infatuation. The boyfriend shows up and off I go.

He is visibly sick. We determine he either looks undead or like he is dying of some terminal disease.

We hit the Green and go straight to the Rave cinema. Here in the middle we find the book-club crew. Captain Green Coat is visibly excited practically jumping up and down. I understand his mania. Having read and loved the book in middle school this is still quite exciting. I will admit that as an adult trying to reread the novel I find Tolkien writing style to be… not my favorite. I still respect the man and think he was an amazing world inventor but… not an author I would choose to read regularly.

Rave Cinema is nice. The seats are comfortable and the surround sound is good. It ought to be for the cost of admission.

The movie is good. It’s made Hollywood style with lots of extended action and over done scenes but nothing really bothers me too much about it. I particularly like the actor playing Bilbo he does a really good job of portraying the character and perhaps makes the guy more likable than he is in the books.

So far a lot of the filler is actually an expansion upon things mentioned in the book. A cool fight scene from the rock giants that had only been witnessed from a distance in the book but made for a cool transition in the movie.
Also the necromancer which had merely been mentioned in the book appears to play a more significant role in these three movies. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

My sister’s biggest complaint was that Killi was far to beautiful to be a Dwarf. We joked about this the rest of the night.

The Pub in the Green is cool but it’s so expensive that I’ve never actually eaten food there. I buy a drink called Lucy in the sky with diamonds and it’s wonderful but it’s $8. I get nothing else but I do enjoy the company around the table. The interior of the pub is extremely cool too. It was a bit loud this Sunday as some business was having a Christmas party but we managed to have some good discussions by means of shouting.

I go home to dream of middle earth. I kiss the sickly boyfriend good night on the cheek unaware that I was doomed to catch that cold anyway.
